Fall 2019 Law Clerk

(Manhattan, NY)

Barry McTiernan & Moore’s Manhattan office is currently seeking a Fall 2019 Law Clerk in our Toxic Tort Department.

Barry McTiernan & Moore’s Law Clerk program is designed to provide the clerk with hands-on training in a real-work environment of a regional firm. We equip our clerks with career skills to enable them to more effectively understand insurance defense litigation. We value collaboration and diversity among our staff and seek to make the practice of law a rewarding experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment
  • Prior law firm/judicial internship or related internship experience is a plus
  • Please note this position is for an hourly wage only, 2-4 days per week (maximum of 20 hours)

Responsibilities:

  • Support Attorney in toxic tort/asbestos litigation
  • Collaborate with attorneys on complicated legal issues
  • Conduct complex legal research and discovery investigation
  • Draft memos and review legal documents
  • Prepare for and attend client meetings, depositions, and court appearances

Barry McTiernan & Moore’s New Jerseyoffice is currently seeking an Associate Attorney.

The ideal candidate will have experience in litigation, preferably including deposition, oral argument and courtroom experience. Candidates must possess excellent academic credentials as well as strong organization, writing and analytical skills.   • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice in the State of New York
  • 2-5 years of insurance defense litigation experience preferred

Barry McTiernan & Moore’s Manhattan office is currently seeking a general litigation Associate Attorney.

This is an excellent opportunity for attorneys with general liability background who are interested in gaining experience in defending general liability (heavy emphasis in auto liability) specifically with attorneys and insurance companies.

Qualifications: 

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice in the state of New York
  • 2-5 years of general liability experience
  • Auto liability experience
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Legal project management experience is helpful

Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in motor vehicle defense litigation
  • Independently manage a litigation caseload, working cases from beginning to end
  • Work closely with other attorneys and Partners on legal projects

Billing Coordinator

(New York, NY)

Barry McTiernan & Moore’s Manhattan office is currently seeking a Billing Coordinator.

This is an excellent opportunity for Billing Coordinators with law firm experience who are interested in gaining experience with performing complex billing duties and interfacing with attorneys and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferably in Accounting or Business but not required)
  • 3+ years experience in a law firm billing department or comparable industry
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • Review and edit pre-bills in response to attorney and administrative assistant requests
  • Execute, handle and process a high volume of complex bills
  • Review, analyze and ensure compliance with client's Outside Counsel Billing Guidelines. Document and update partner & client billing protocols as needed
  • Extensive knowledge & experience with eBilling vendors (TyMetrix 360, CounselLink, Collaborati, Legal Tracker (Serengeti), Collaboration Portal (Passport), BottomLine Legal Exchange)
  • Submit timekeeper rates for all of our eBilling sites
  • Complete new client set-ups with eBilling vendors
  • Help manage eBilling vendor invoices for payment
  • Run weekly invoice rejection reports to share with all billers & coordinate follow-up.
  • Consistently “clean-up” stale time/uncollectable amounts and obtain necessary authorization for write-offs in accordance with firm policy
  • Troubleshoot client invoice related issues, such as e-billing questions/problems, etc. Respond to client inquiries/questions in a timely manner and escalate issues as needed to Supervisor as needed
  • Confirm compliance with the firm’s accounting, billing and collection policies and controls and ensure integrity of the firm’s financial and operating information
  • Establish effective & open lines of communication with clients’ financial/ebilling teams so that the firm’s invoices are processed expeditiously
