Partner Shawnette Fluitt recently attended the DRI Women in the Law conference in San Diego, CA. Although this was not her first conference, it was an exciting experience as it was a female focused conference. The conference addressed female empowerment and networking. While there were plenty of opportunities for education and learning, it was also a great opportunity for women to support and encourage one another in this male dominated profession.
Shawnette met both seasoned and young attorneys in diverse fields and had the opportunity to share experiences, war stories and triumphs.
“Several of the sessions which I attended were very informative and insightful on their particular subjects. One thing that I found particularly interesting is a conversation that I had with a group of my colleagues regarding mentorship. I believe that it is very important for more experienced attorneys to guide the younger attorneys in their firms. Mentorship can be a useful tool for attorney development as well as retention. Not only does it have educational advantages but it can provide professional socialization and personal support.”
The firm looks forward to Shawnette guiding us to a stronger and more diverse firm.
